Have you got your tickets for the luau party tomorrow?  The party is from 4-7pm at the pool patio with Kevin Moen as your DJ extraordinaire and a teriyaki pork dinner with all the trimmings – all for $13.50 per person.  Virgin MaiTais will be available from the singles club for only $3 (you can bring your own addition if you want). You get to keep the glass!  The weather forecast looks perfect! Everyone is welcome and tickets are available in the Activities Office.

The fashion show and luncheon is filling up quickly.  Please join us on Friday, Jan 12 for a cobb salad lunch at 11:30am while your friends and neighbors model the latest fashions from New Image.  Tickets are available for lunch for $6.50 in the Activity Office.

NOTICE:  Pets are not allowed inside buildings, except for Service Dogs. This includes the courtyard in and around the Pool area.  Thank you very much.

REMINDER: – The Park is reaching maximum capacity; therefore, as a reminder, the Speed limit is 15 MPH.  SLOW your vehicles DOWN.  This applies to Golf Carts as well.  And, remember to STOP at all intersections.

What is Welcome Back??  On Saturday, Jan 13, most of our park activities, sports, games, etc., will have representatives available to talk to in the Hole in the Wall from 1-2pm.  We’re here to encourage you to become involved and learn about all the things to do here at Sundance 1 RV Resort.  This park is your winter home and we are your winter family and all our activities are available for you.  Refreshments will be served!!

Reminder: The  IL/IN Potluck is  from 3:30-7p in the Hole in the Wall on Jan 10, 2018.  Everyone from these states are welcome – just bring your table service and a dish to share.

IMPORTANT – All articles for the February Issue of the Smoke Signal are to be submitted in writing or e-mail to the Activities Office by Jan 20, 2018.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED!!  Our Casino Night is scheduled for Friday, Jan 26 and we still don’t have anyone to organize and be the contact person.  Please step up to the plate before Jan 12 or the event will need to be cancelled.  Thanks for understanding.

Tickets are now available for the Johnny Cash Tribute Show on Wednesday, Jan 17 at 7pm in the Hole in the Wall.  You’re sure to enjoy and remember all his popular songs!  Tickets are $8 in the Activities Office.

You don’t want to miss this show!  Jack Jackson will perform his tribute to Marty Robbins on Saturday, Jan 13 at 7pm in the Hole in the Wall.  Tickets are $10 and are available in the Activities Office.

Tomar Pain Clinic will be our speaker at the Jan 8 Koffee Klatch.  Please join us at this informational meeting at 8:30am for coffee and donuts.

The CO/NE potluck on ON!  This year we will need meat as well as side dishes.  Signup sheet is in the Activities Office.  Please join us on Saturday, Jan 20th at 11:30am in the Hole in the Wall to have lunch and meet your neighbors!

Chain saw carving demonstration – Come and enjoy watching Marty at work!  He’ll be at the sports court on Jan 6 at 3pm before the luau!  Raffle drawing will be during the luau.

Pickleball – January’s monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan 10 at 4:15pm in the Gambling Room.  Bring an appetizer and beverage of your choice if you wish.

Pokeno – Pokeno has been suspended until further notice.

Write Your Own Story… We would like to begin this class again.  If you’re interested in resuming this class, please contact The Activity Office so we have a head count.  Thank you.

Cactus Needles This group needs to be cancelled on Monday, Jan 8, 2018.  Note:  Cold weather is HERE and so are we!  Come join the knitting/crocheting/looming group to make warm weather items for our friends in the Casa Grande area and beyond.  Just bring your own needles (if you have them), your smile, and join us on Monday, Jan 15 from 10-noon in the HangOut Room.

 Sundance Hiking Group – It was a beautiful day for a hike – the first of the season on Jan 3.  Thirteen hikers did the 3.3 mile hike on Casa Grande mountain and although it was rated easy, we found the rocky trail to be a challenge.  The morning sky and fresh air were worth it; however, and we are game for more!  On Wednesday, Jan 10, we will take off the Queen Creek, AZ to hike the Goldmine Trail to San Tan loop. https://www.alltrails.com/trai/us/arizona/goldmine-trail-to-san-tan-trail-loop. We will leave promptly at 7:30am in front of the activity Office.  Wear sunscreen; bring water and a lunch.  Good hiking footwear and poles are recommended.

Computer Club – The meeting is Wednesday, Jan 10, 2018 from 9-10am in the Hang Out Room.

Genealogy News – Welcome to 2018 Sundance 1 Genealogy Group.  We meet the first 4 Wednesday mornings of each month in the Gambling Room at 10am.  The 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings are regular genealogist group and the 2nd and 4th Wednesday mornings cater towards the beginners.  Everyone is welcome to every meeting.  We always welcome seasoned researchers to help the beginners in searching.

On Jan 3, Lynn Olson will conduct a discussion on “Breaking 20 Myths on Genealogy Researching.”

On Jan 17th, Jeanette Keyes will conduct a class on “Find a Grave.”

Also, on Jan 27th, the Pinal County Genealogist will be hosting the 15th Annual Genealogy Workshop held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1555 N Colorado here in Casa Grande.  The sessions begin with check in at 8 and the workshops at 9 until 3:30pm.  The cost is $20 which includes lunch plus an extra $5 for a syllabus.  You will find the registration papers by going on the website www.pinalctyazgen.com or contact Jeanette Keyes at site 25.  Registration must be postmarked by January 13, 2018.  Walk-ins welcome; lunch not guaranteed.

Softball – This weeks Sundance 1 games are being played at Robson Ranch:  Tuesday, Jan 9 at 11:30 and 12:45 as well as Thursday, Jan 11 at 11:30 and 12:45.   Come cheer our teams to victory!

Veterans Group – Meeting Reminder – On Monday, Jan 8, at 10am in the Sundance Hang Out Room. If you are new to the park, we would love to have you jo in our ranks!!!

The Sundance/Fairways Veteran’s Group wants to again THANK Liz Ploppert and the Quilting Group for their generous donation of the three beautiful works of art that was raffled on Dec 20.  There were 269 tickets purchased by Sundance and Fairway residents which helped the Vets group adopt three families for Christmas 2017.  Congratulations to the raffle winners:  Tim Ward, Rex Pugh and Jan Rivers.  Many THANKS again to all from the vets and the adopted families who enjoyed a more Merry Christmas.

HANDS ACROSS THE BORDER –

Welcome to all of the new arrivals to Sundance 1 and to all of you returning from your holiday visits with family and friends.

This year our Hands Across the Border dinner will be entertained by Freddie and Sheila on Saturday February 17, 2018 in the Hole in the Wall.  Tickets for this fabulous evening will go on sale Monday, Jan 29, 2018 at 9am in the Hang Out Room.  Tickets will be $10 per person with a limit of 4 tickets per site.  If you require further information, please contact Bob and Jayne Abbott at site #558.

There is a new hairdresser in Sundance 1 RV park!  Haircuts are available from Sue Gaede at site 503. The more residents we have, the more we’ll be able to use both hairdressers.  Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Sue.

I would like to THANK all of my wonderful neighbors and friends whose generosity has made it possible to reach my goal and order the remarkable glasses that will change my life!!  My gratitude is overflowing! The fundraiser is closed as of 12-28-2017.  The glasses were ordered at that time.  I should receive them in 3-4 weeks.  Anyone who would like to still make a donation can do so directly to me by check.  This will help me defray the cost that I contributed.

Condolences and Congratulations! 

We are saddened to report the death of our dear friend, resident card player and assistant play director, Nancy Stevens.  She passed away on Saturday, Dec 30, 2017.  She will be missed.

Jim and Helen Eaton will celebrate their 55th anniversary on Jan 11.  Wow – many congratulations!

When you see Georgia Meehan on Jan 18, wish her a very happy birthday!!

Hurray!! At our recent blood drive, 22 lifesaving donors stepped up to donate!  Thank you Sundance!!
