February 2016 Smoke Signal

Happy Valentine's Day

President's Day DogsFrom the Manager’s Desk…

This is a reminder that if you are here at Sundance this season with a 3 month or longer reservation and you wish to reserve your current site for next season, you must do so prior to March 1st. This reminder is for all monthly guests and those with RV Annual reservations. This does not include Park Models. If you are an RV Annual you must come to the office and book your site for next season to guarantee your site.

From March 1st through March 14th we are accepting reservations from those who have been bumped by another guest or by management to allow for a new annual RV or for a new Park Model.

Starting March 15th we are accepting all reservations. We encourage all guests to stop by the office to talk about your reservation needs.

Please keep your site weed free. All Annuals must have a caretaker to watch over your site when you are not here.

All Park Model owners, please check your Park Model to see if it needs some TLC such as washing, waxing, painting or repairs to steps.

Steve and Sally Jo Johnson, Managers

This park is like heaven to us so please do not drive like Hell through it.

Cars Here, Cars There, Cars Everywhere;  Yikes!

Effective this coming fall, there will be a new rule regarding the parking of extra vehicles.  Those who have more than 1 vehicle need to park the extra vehicle on the patio side of their site.  If you are planning on remodeling, please keep in mind that you need to leave enough room to park your vehicle(s) on your own site and without hanging out into the road or infringing on someone else’s site.  We are still figuring out the logistics on what will be considered an approved parking spot if both vehicles do not fit side by side or end to end under your awning.  Please see Pam at the office if you have any concerns.

Access Road Direction Change Coming Soon…

The access road between the sewing/craft room and the pull throughs will become a 1-way street at the end of the season.  This change will eliminate the congestion and assure safety for all.  Thank you for understanding.

Sue's Desk

From Sue’s Desk at Sundance 1 RV Activities Office…. Are you  ready for the busiest month of the winter season?   So much  to do—the month will just fly by.  Be sure to mark your calendar for these wonderful events.

I’d like to take time to recap a few of our exciting January events.  Our  RV Park’s New Years Party was a huge success with the dance band Desert Drifters.  Lots of compliments were received about our cowboy décor .  Folks went home with their bandanas and sheriff’s badges!

We danced every Saturday night away with the Campbell Brothers, Bunky, DJ Dick Anderson and, one of our favorites, Debbie & The Double Eagle.  The Missouri Opry entertained us with their 50’s/60’s music.  Of course, how can we forget our memorable residents presenting the Grande Ole Sundance Opry!   We love to entertain ourselves in this park! (and we love to laugh).  Sundance 1 RV welcomes the public to our dances and shows.

Line Dancing…

First of all let me mention that many new students have joined our class, and I am excited about that.  They seem very enthusiastic in learning the dances. I’m going to do all I can to help them progress. A recent observation  by an experienced line dancer noted the changes in line dancing over the past several years.  It is no longer only country music. Today it includes Rumbas, Tango’s, Mambo’s, Cha Cha’s  and beautiful Waltzes. Steps are easily adapted and can be experienced without a partner at all.  There’s still plenty of time to get a good understanding of the basic line dance movements in order to have a head start for next season.

Beginner classes continue each Tuesday 1 to 3pm and Thursday 1 to 2:30pm, Intermediate is Thursday 2:30 to 3:30.

Come and join the fun.

You won’t want to miss the quilt and fabric arts show featuring many quilts and other items crafted by Sundance and Fairways sewers. Our sister park, Fairways, is heading up this year’s show. Our combined quilters have also been busy creating charity/community items that will be donated to local organizations. The show will be in the Hole in the Wall from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, February 27th.

Lunch and beverages will be available from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Hamburgers or bratwursts can be purchased for $6.00 which includes condiments, chips, a cookie and coffee or lemonade.

You have a choice of which items you want to enter your tickets in or spread them out for a chance in all three. Drawing for Opportunity items will be shortly after 3 pm. Proceeds will go towards next year’s quilt show supplies and charities.

Mardi Gras Parade Coming Soon!

We are counting down the days to the 4th annual Mardi Gras Parade!

Sundance Sewers…

What a busy and fun time we’ve had in the sewing room. We continue to welcome back our long-time friends who are joining us after the holidays, and we are welcoming quite a few newcomers. When they join us, they tell us that the quilting/sewing room was one of the biggest reasons they chose Sundance. The room is being used every day, so pick a day that works for you and come sew, chat, and laugh with us. We have had a number of classes already and more are planned. Stop by the room and check out the upcoming classes. Classes have been so popular they fill up quickly. All classes are taught by our own quilters/sewers. We’d love to have you join us.

We just finished a mystery quilt class with 17 participants. All were using the same pattern but each one is so different. Amazing!! Be sure to look for them at the quilt show.

We had a large group for our January luncheon. The next luncheon will be on Wednesday, February 10th. There will be a pincushion challenge at the February luncheon. You must make one (not purchase) and take one. Bring your pincushion in a brown paper bag which is provided. It should be a fun exchange and fun to see the different ideas. It is not necessary to participate if you don’t want to. Get your luncheon tickets from Sally Brown or Sue Roberts. It’s always a fun time. Menu is a chicken wrap and potato salad. $5.00

The Quilt Show and lunch will be on Saturday, February 27th. Anyone in the park is eligible to show their quilts. So if you have been working at home on a project and would like to show it please be sure to enter. Our sister park, Fairways have several opportunity items this year. The items will be on display at each Monday morning coffee klatch till the show. Come see what beautiful items they have made and get your tickets for the drawing. Fiesta Grande RV Resort also will be holding their quit show on the 27th. Did I mention fun?!

The Country Store…

JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

The February Country Store will be held Friday, February 5, from 9 to 12 in the Hole-in-the-Wall. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, you will want to examine what over 40 vendors have on hand. Whether it’s something for your grandchildren or that special person – you’ll find a wonderful selection from which to choose.

Come early and enjoy a cup of coffee and a donut. At 11 Mary, Larry and the kitchen crew will offer a delicious lunch of Bernie’s Ravenwood soup ($4.00) or fish tacos ($5.00). All lunches include lemonade or iced tea.

We’ll see you on Friday, February 5 at the Country Store.

Genealogy (Beginners)….

Want help getting started on your exciting journey into researching your family tree?

Starting in February, on the 2nd and 4th Wed. of each month, we will have a beginner’s workshop.  If you have a laptop computer that you could bring, that would be helpful.  Also, if you tether to your phone, that would be super.  But don’t worry, we will have a couple of computers with internet connection.

Things to bring:  Write down as much information that you have on your ancestor that you will be researching and any research forms you may have. Also, bring a pencil and paper.  This class will have individual attention geared to help you get started on your ancestry research.

We will still have the regular Genealogy group meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wed of each month and everyone is welcome.

Hope to see you there.

Genealogy…

Do you have a curious mind?  Every wonder where you came from?  Do you want to find out about your ancestors?  If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you will want to come and check out our Genealogy class.  We will have programs, a workshop, excursion to the History Center, along with roundtable discussions.  We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month from 10-11am in the Gambling room.

R C Cars..

The Race is on! Races are happening every Monday and Wednesday at 2 P.M. and sometimes on Friday afternoons. We have been enjoying some very good racing so far this year. The cars are running fast with some very close races. There have also been some spectacular crashes!

On Wednesday Feb 24th at 1:00 PM we will be having a special day of racing. The wives will be taking control of the cars for the annual powder puff races. Come on out and watch as it will surely be entertaining.

Pickleball…

Our courts are full again!! There are organized activities every morning; please check the schedule on the courts or in the Activities Office for start times. As the weather gets warmer, our start times will change. The “Shoot-Out” on Thursdays, is a League, where players commit to playing on a weekly basis. To register, see Bruce Foreman (#186). All the other activities can accommodate “drop-ins” and short-termers; the “competitive” players use the north courts and the “recreation” players use the south ones. If you haven’t heard of pickleball and want to check it out, you are welcome to watch. Better yet; the free lessons on Mondays are given by Kathy Schmidt, a retired P.E. teacher. (Are we lucky, or what?). Lessons are at 10:00 currently, but check schedule for changes. New this season are “intermediate”skills-building clinics on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-2:00, with Kathy (#546) and Sassy (#366). If you don’t want to play in the structured activities, you are welcome to play on a vacant court or use the courts during Open Play times.

There is a User Fee of $10/player/season to cover the equipment replacement costs and maintenance. If you use the courts and are at Sundance two weeks or longer, please put your money in an envelope in Park Mail to Cindy Litke #662, with your name, email and site number. She will give you a blue star for your badge.

Happy pickling!!

Important notice!!  All park models with above the ground water lines will have a water box and shut off valve installed.  If you want lines run underground, you will be responsible for the change.

If you have questions, please see Management.

The Town Council…

The Town Council of Sundance held its monthly meeting on January 13th. The members are Harold Beach, Bob Hurst, Sheila Keyman, Paul Knapp, Alice Neuok and Paul Street.

Some of the discussion was:

There seems to be a lot of cigarette butts littering the park.

Sally Jo was asked about the rumor that homes in the park with flat roofs could not be sold. She explained that any park model in the park can be sold with park approval, but there is a waiver in the sales agreement stating that any park model with a flat roof may, at some future date, be subject to updating.

There will be 5 vacancies on the board for the 2016-17 season. Residents are encouraged to consider filling these positions. Nomination forms will be available in February and elections will be in March.

The complete minutes are available in the activity office.

If you have any concerns,  please speak with one of the members or fill out a comment form found in the activities office and place it in the utility mail slot located in the office wall across from the post office door. Any signed form will be addressed.

Stained Glass…  Our activities are progressing nicely.  We have 2 or 3 new monitors who have graciously volunteered their time. This will allow more free time for all.  Stepping stones, window hangings, as well as windows are all projects that can be produced. All newcomers are welcome.

Computer Room…

The computer room hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:45 PM.  There are 9 PC computers, hook-ups for WiFi devices and laptops.

Our volunteers are not necessarily detailed experts; but may be able to offer assistance.

The fees are $1.00 per day for casual usage or $10.00 for the whole season.  There are some charges for printing.  All charges are posted in the computer room.

The Geek
